BA Psychosocial Assistance and Rehabilitation

Welcome to the prestigious study programme “Psychosocial Assistance and Rehabilitation (Bachelor's degree)”, Field of study “Social Work”, language of training is Ukrainian.

A social worker is a sociologist, social psychologist and manager, social teacher and advisor; a mediator between the state, business and society. He/she is a conflictologist who knows how to negotiate, give advice and settle conflicts. A social worker is an expert in social problems of individuals and various groups, who is able to protect their rights and interests. He/she can professionally plan and implement social services at governmental and non-governmental organizations, as well as perform an expert role in project management at Ukrainian and international recreational health and recuperation centres and charitable foundations.

The mission of the study programme  is to train fully qualified, competitive, socially responsible professionals who have universal basic professional knowledge and skills that meet the requirements of the modern labor market, can work with modern technologies in psychological and pedagogical fields; create conditions for the development of personal and professional potential of individuals and clients of different social and professional groups of different ages and in giving people the opportunity to develop their full potential, enrich their lives and prevent dysfunction.

Results of mastery of the study programme: acquisition of basic knowledge of fundamental and applied courses/disciplines necessary for competence of bachelors in the field of social work, able to solve specific problems and tasks of professional activity.

Professional knowledge and skills obtained after completing the programme:

- carrying out psychodiagnostic and consulting work with various categories of citizens;

- identification of socio-psychological factors of social maladjustment in children in order to choose the forms and content of psychological and preventive work;

- rendering of consulting services to individuals and organizations;

- provision of social and psychological support to disadvantaged categories of the population;

- organization of career guidance and professional selection, as well as advanced training of specialists in various fields;

- provision of socio-psychological and advisory support to various organizations, institutions and government departments;

- conducting social and psychological research, developing measures to create a favorable working environment, as well as to increase labor productivity and optimize the psychological climate among members of the organization;

- creation of social and psychological protection of the population;

- carrying out social and psychological rehabilitation of elderly people, disadvantaged families, military AFU and people with disabilities;

- сreation of the necessary conditions for adaptation and social rehabilitation of various types of families and children in DLS (difficult life situations);

- prevention of the emergence of new DLS in various types of families and in children;

- carrying out social work and rehabilitation of people from the risk group, the military, former convicts who ended up in the DLS;

- diagnosis of DLS in people from risk groups.

Programme requirements (ECTS credits)

In accordance with the Standard on higher education set for the programme Psychosocial Assistance and Rehabilitation(Bachelor’s Degree), 240 ECTS credits are awarded in total. The curriculum incorporates: mandatory courses (160 ECTS credits) including course paper (1 ECTS credit) and elective courses (60.5 ECTS credits). Practical training which includes internship – 10.5 ECTS credits. The Comprehensive State Examination in Profession (1.5 ECTS credits). Bachelor’s thesis (7.5 ECTS credits)

Educational goals of the programme

General goal of the study programme “Psychosocial Assistance and Rehabilitation” (Bachelor’s Degree) is to provide fundamental training of specialists in the field of social work, able to solve specific problems and tasks of professional activity, provide psychosocial assistance and carry out rehabilitation subject to the acquisition of general and mastering the system of professional (special) competencies that are the basis of graduates' competitiveness.

The programme’s objectives are designed to:

  • training of specialists who are able to solve complex specialized problems and applied problems of the social sphere or in the learning process;
  • application of certain theories and methods of social work;
  • provide training for bachelors in social work, taking into account the requirements of the labor market for the formation of competence and quality improvement through the introduction of innovations in education;
  • provide basic knowledge of fundamental and applied courses required for the competence of bachelors in social work;
  • to acquaint students with effective socio-psychological tools for counseling, social and psychological rehabilitation for clients of different ages and social and professional groups;
  • develop the students’ powers of analysis and judgement;
  • develop graduates as social individuals who are ready to solve certain problems and tasks of communicative and social activity;
  • to identify at enterprises, in microdistricts, villages, families of individuals who need socio-medical, legal, psychological-pedagogical, material and other assistance, protection of moral, physical and mental health;
  •  to establish the reasons of the difficulties arising in them, conflict situations, including at the place of work, study, etc., to help them in solving existing problems, employment, social protection;
  • to promote the integration of the activities of various state and public organizations and institutions to provide the necessary socio-economic assistance to the population;
  • to conduct psychological, pedagogical and legal consultations on family and marriage issues, educational work among children prone to delinquency;
  • provide assistance in concluding agreements on homework for parents with minor children, the disabled, retirees;
  • identify and provide support to children and adults in need of guardianship and care, placement in medical and educational institutions, material, social and other assistance;
  • to organize public protection of juvenile offenders if necessary - to take part in it personally;
  • to promote the establishment and operation of social service centers for youth, family assistance (adoption, guardianship, care), youth, adolescent, children's associations, associations, interest clubs;
  • to help the organization and educational activities of boarding schools, shelters for the disabled, the elderly, the homeless, etc.;
  • to take part in work on social adaptation and rehabilitation of the persons who have returned from special educational institutions, from Joint Forces Operation of Ukraine and places of imprisonment, the decision of other acute social problems.
